Editor Workshop

Mr. Alex Zhang

Chief Editor

Title: Publishing through the lens of Nature Energy

Bio: Since joining Springer Nature (formerly Nature Publishing Group) in 2013, I have been handling the editorial assessment and publication of energy research manuscripts. I initially worked at Nature Communications before moving to Nature Energy, where I helped launch the journal in 2016. I also worked as a Consulting Editor for Nature. In 2024, I took on the role of Chief Editor at Nature Energy and am based in the London office. I hold a PhD in surface catalysis from Queen’s University Belfast.

Abstract: Publishing impactful research requires more than just strong scientific findings – it also involves clear communication, strategic positioning, and an understanding of what makes a paper compelling. Drawing on my experience with Nature Energy, I will explore the key elements of successful scientific publishing and discuss the challenges researchers may face.

Mr. Yuqing Liu

Scientific editor, Matter

Title: Publish with Cell Press in Materials Science

Bio: Yuqing obtained his PhD from University of Central Florida with a focus on the optical and electrical properties of nanomaterials. He joined Beijing Institute of Technology in 2017 as a junior faculty member before becoming an editor of the European Physical Journal (EPJ) series in 2020, covering a range of topics in physics and materials science. Yuqing joined Cell Press in 2022 and is based in the Beijing office.

Abstract: With continuous evolution, Cell Press has become a publisher covering over 50 scientific journals across the life, physical, earth, and health sciences. Especially, there are more than one journal that publishes cutting edge research within the fields of materials science. This presentation aims to showcase the breadth and depth of our publications while providing additional details in the important processes and considerations in paper writing, article submission, and peer review.
